CASEY’S GENERAL STORES reports strong Q1

US-based convenience store retailer Casey’s has reported same-store sales for the first quarter ending 31 July rose 2%. Total sales were up 6.7% to USD317.2 million.

RITE AID to test SUPERVALU Save-A-Lot concession

Rite Aid has signed a licensing agreement with SuperValu’s Save-A-Lot to add the limited assortment discount grocery store concept to ten Rite Aid stores in Greenville, South Carolina.

AHOLD ICA Norway may lose more independents

Ahold’s ICA in Norway may lose several independent retailers after discussions held this week. ICA is currently deciding whether a group of 20-30 independent shop owners will be allowed to cancel their contracts before expiration date as they have requested, Aftenposten has reported.

TOPS MARKETS to open 20 former P&C Food stores

US grocery retailer Tops Markets will today open 20 former P&C Food stores that have been rebannered Tops. The stores in the Central and Northern New York area were part of 79 Penn Traffic supermarkets acquired in January, some of which were bannered P&C Food.

WH SMITH buys Gadget Shop

WH Smith has bought gadget and gift e-commerce site the Gadget Shop from toy specialist The Entertainer. The deal went through last week, when suppliers to The Entertainer were told that the company wanted to focus on its core toys business.
