EuroShop 2011: Raw wood, LEDs and colorful mannequins

By Karen Schaffner

After a marathon 10-hour flight home and a couple of days to recuperate and catch up, it’s time to pull together some impressions on EuroShop 2011.

I missed the 2008 show, but quickly got back in the EuroShop mode on Saturday, recalling the tram system, the ever-present cigarette smoke and the massive Messe Dusseldorf campus. This year’s event was the largest ever, with more than 2,000 exhibitors showing in 1.15 million square feet, and more than 106,000 attendees.

There was a sizeable American contingent this year, including the Euro A Go Go tour of about 120 retailers, designers and suppliers. A.R.E.’s two events—Shoptalk and the North American Reception (co-sponsored with DDI, GlobalShop and Messe Dusseldorf)—were both well-attended. Click here to read more.

  • Changing perspectives. Angled walls were everywhere—dividing spaces, back walls, vignette backgrounds—and they all looked like they were falling on you!
