2009 A.R.E. SUSTAINABILITY AWARDS WINNERS

ARE Sustainability Awards

Marrying a holistic, comprehensive sustainable approach with outstanding design aesthetics and functionality, REI’s Round Rock, Texas, store took home Project of the Year in the Association for Retail Environments’ inaugural Sustainability Awards. A.R.E. members contributing to the project included design firm Gensler; fixture companies Grand & Benedicts Store Fixtures, High Country Millwork, Leader Manufacturing Inc., Reeve Store Equipment Co., and Rudy Rack; and visual element suppliers Lehrman Cameron Studio and Tempest Technologies.

Judges awarded the highest honors to projects that balance comprehensive sustainability programs with good design. Tied for Second Place were D.C. restaurant Founding Farmers and the Boise, Idaho, North Face store. Three projects received Outstanding Merit awards.
