ENCOURAGING EXCELLENCE IN SUSTAINABLE RETAIL

The A.R.E. Sustainability Awards are intended to encourage excellence in sustainable retail design.

A.R.E.'s efforts to do so began in 2008, when the association began asking about sustainable aspects of entries in its existing Design Awards competition. Design Awards judges bestowed Special Recognition for Green Awareness on 10 projects.

In 2009, the A.R.E. Sustainability Awards were launched at GlobalShop. With this independant program, entry questions were more direct, and a judging panel focused on sustainability reviewed the entries using defined criteria. On July 1, a total of 12 awards were announced.

For the 2010 competition, the program has evolved to incorporate in-depth entry questions directed toward defined criteria. It is designed to reward projects that collectively serve to move the industry forward in sustainability.

A.R.E. is pleased to bring recognition to outstanding efforts to create experiential spaces that engage the customer while building green equity. The A.R.E. Sustainability Awards not only recognize today's leaders in sustainable retail environments, but inspire future project teams to raise the bar in green building for retail.
