Hollywood, Fla. (Jan. 14, 2009)—The first requirements of California Air Resources Board’s Air Toxic Control Measure (ATCM) for formaldehyde emissions from composite wood products took effect Jan. 1, 2009. Store fixtures that contain particleboard, MDF, and hardwood plywood must comply with the new regulation if they are destined for use in California. The Association for Retail Environments offers two CARB compliance tools:
• Now available on demand: A.R.E. University webinar, CARB Compliance: Implications of the New California Formaldehyde Rule. For those who missed this informative Nov. 6, 2008, session, a recorded version is now available. Presented by John Bradfield, director of environmental affairs of the Composite Panel Association, it covers what the requirements entail, when you need to be compliant, what exemptions apply, what labeling you’ll need on your inventory, and what records you’ll need to keep and for how long.
A.R.E. University webinars present information tailored to the retail environments industry in a time-efficient, affordable format that avoids the environmental impact of travel. For information, visit www.retailenvironments.org/webinars.
• For A.R.E. members only: CARB Labeling Fact Sheet, a quick reference including sample language for labeling components or finished products as they apply to A.R.E. members. The fact sheet is available through the Members Only section of www.retailenvironments.org.
