NADI Kicks Off Regional Shoptalks
Major Retailers Attend San Francisco Event for Visual Merchandisers, Store Planners

San Francisco (August 1, 2006)—— Major retailers attended Shoptalk San Francisco, the first of an ongoing series of regional educational/networking events for retailers in the visual merchandising profession presented by NADI. Held July 20, 2006, at Nordstrom San Francisco, the event featured a networking reception and a dynamic presentation of what’s new globally in retail branding. Kate Ancketill, managing director of GDR Creative Intelligence Ltd., a London-based consulting firm, showed the latest trends in visual display, technology, packaging, and brand extension.

Attendee Joel Boeckman, visual manager of The North Face, notes that it's often difficult for retailers to keep abreast of trends. “It was insightful and eye-opening to the marketplace to learn of these trends,” he says.

His response was characteristic, according to co-host and sponsor Bill McHenry, president of Elevations Inc., a South San Francisco-based supplier of fixturing solutions, decorative elements, artwork, and holiday décor. “Attendees liked the concept, found the content relevant and the presentation exciting, and are looking forward to the next one,” McHenry says.

Refreshments were served with a full bar, compliments of sponsors Elevations and B&N Industries. “Nordstrom was a fantastic host. They went out of their way to provide the perfect setting,” says co-host and sponsor Brad Somberg, president of B&N Industries, a Burlingame, Calif.-based provider of cable, shelving, wall, and freestanding fixture systems and signage.

The San Francisco event was the first of four regional NADI Shoptalks planned for 2006. The events are forums for visual and store planning professionals to “talk shop” with colleagues in an informal setting and learn about industry trends.

“NADI's Shoptalk is a wonderful, unique platform for meeting fellow professionals, exchanging ideas and learning something new. Holding these regionally offers greater exposure to retailers and their staffs. We look forward to more of these in the years to come and in more locations,” says NADI President Bob Rosean, president of ALU.

Additional regional Shoptalks this year include:

  • Dallas, Oct. 10, 2006, hosted by NADI board members Michael Cape of JC Penney and Ignaz Gorischek of The Neiman Marcus Group
  • Minneapolis, Oct. 12, 2006, hosted by NADI board members Judy Bell of Target, James Damian of Best Buy Co., MaryAlice Hughes of Macy’s, and Lynn Knutson of Harley-Davidson Motor Co.
  • New York, Oct. 18, 2006, hosted by NADI board members Dan Evans of Goldsmith, Linda Lombardi of Ann Taylor, Nancy Jackson of Architectural Systems, and Richard Stolls of Trim Corporation of America
