United
Van Lines and Its Agent Win Awards from AMSA
The
American Moving and Storage Association (AMSA) has awarded St.
Louis-based transportation company United
Van Lines the Fleet Safety Award. The award is
given to the two carriers that demonstrate the best weighted
combination of the lowest Department of Transportation (DOT)
recordable accident rate per million miles of vehicle operation,
lowest vehicle and driver out-of-service rates, and lowest cargo
claims ratio. United was the winner in the Over 100 Million
Miles category, with a winning accident frequency of 0.558 per
million miles.
Patrick
Murphy, a van operator for Barrett
Moving & Storage, a Minneapolis, Minn., agent
of United Van Lines, was honored as the 2003 AMSA Super Van
Operator Lifetime Achievement Award Winner. The recognition
acknowledges excellent performance in operational proficiency,
customer service, and safety. Lifetime Achievement winners must
have a minimum of 20 years of experience in operating commercial
motor vehicles interstate. Murphy has been employed with Barrett
Moving & Storage for 27 years and has driven more than 2
million miles throughout his career. Within the last year, he
drove more than 100,000 miles.
