United Van Lines and Its Agent Win Awards from AMSA

The American Moving and Storage Association (AMSA) has awarded St. Louis-based transportation company United Van Lines the Fleet Safety Award. The award is given to the two carriers that demonstrate the best weighted combination of the lowest Department of Transportation (DOT) recordable accident rate per million miles of vehicle operation, lowest vehicle and driver out-of-service rates, and lowest cargo claims ratio. United was the winner in the Over 100 Million Miles category, with a winning accident frequency of 0.558 per million miles.

Patrick Murphy, a van operator for Barrett Moving & Storage, a Minneapolis, Minn., agent of United Van Lines, was honored as the 2003 AMSA Super Van Operator Lifetime Achievement Award Winner. The recognition acknowledges excellent performance in operational proficiency, customer service, and safety. Lifetime Achievement winners must have a minimum of 20 years of experience in operating commercial motor vehicles interstate. Murphy has been employed with Barrett Moving & Storage for 27 years and has driven more than 2 million miles throughout his career. Within the last year, he drove more than 100,000 miles.
