Smith & Fong to Produce FSC-Certified Bamboo

April 11, 2008 — San Francisco-based Smith & Fong Co., manufacturer of flooring, paneling, and plywood products, has secured Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification for its line of FSC-certified bamboo plywood and flooring. The certified product will be available to the North American market by this summer.

Smith & Fong's certified products will qualify for the FSC Pure designation, indicating 100% FSC-certified material from an FSC-certified forest that has been sold and/or processed by an FSC-certified chain-of-custody company. The company's sources use no irrigation, pesticides, or fertilizers in growing their bamboo.

Founded in 1989, Smith & Fong uses its trademarked bamboo and coconut palm-based Plyboo® bamboo and Durapalm® in the manufacture of flooring, paneling, and plywood products.
