Driver Representative – Metro

Department: Operations
Reports To: Customer Development Representative
Summary: Drives gasoline or diesel powered tractor or tractor trailer combination to transport and deliver products or materials in loose or packaged form by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
·Hostels trailers to destinations for loading.
·Either leaves loaded trailer at Customer site for pick up by over-the-road Driver Representative or moves loaded trailer to a designated pick up site.
·Drives trucks with short-haul loads to destination within the Metro area.
·Observes all safety regulations of the Department of Transportation and notifies the Dispatcher in advance when a potential violation may occur and works with the Dispatcher to develop a solution which avoids an unsafe situation.
·Inspects truck for defects before and after trips and submits report indicating truck condition.
·Assists workers in loading and unloading trailer.
·Reviews bill of lading to ensure that all items listed are loaded and that all loaded items are listed. Corrects any discrepancies prior to leaving the loading dock.
·Ensures that specialized packaging (blanket wrap) or loading (decking) is implemented properly. Wraps products and builds decking, as needed.
·Pads, stacks, straps, and secures items in position on truck to prevent damage during shipment.
·Upon delivery, double checks unloaded items against the bill of lading and secures a signature from the recipient on the bill of lading.
·Upon delivery, collects and accounts for all packing accessories (i.e. blankets, decking material, straps, etc.) and stores them neatly in the trailer.
·Counts packing accessories and inspects them for defects before and after trips. Notifies dispatch of items which must be replaced and makes sure that adequate supplies are present on the trailer prior to each trip.
·Maintains driver log according to Department of Transportation regulations.
·Submits all bills of lading, logs, and other paperwork to Accounting in a timely fashion in order to allow for billing of the Customer to take place in a timely and efficient manner.
·Is an important representative of the company who treats all Customers with respect and works with Customers to meet or exceed their transportation needs.
·Calls on current Customers and potential new Customers to improve visibility of company's Metro Services and to secure additional business, if possible.
·Strives for continuous improvement in all aspects of the company's operations.
·Maintains a safe, clean, and orderly work place
·Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. ·Must be willing to work with Customers

·Must be committed to drug-free driving

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of two years driving a tractor trailer is required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS Above average verbal communication skills and good written skills, are required.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Average mathematical skills are needed.

REASONING ABILITY Good reasoning ability is required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS An over-the-road driver's license is required.
