Short Pack II

Department:Packing and Shipping
Title of Immediate Supervisor:Supervisor, Packing and Shipping
Summary: This position is responsible for prioritizing, organizing, packing, moving, staging, and processing material within the packing department with regard to efficiency, quality, and safety.

In addition to the above duties, this individual will be, along with leadpersons, responsible for the training (both formal and informal) of the first level short packers. Key expectations from this individual will be increased responsibility, problem solving, initiative, and accountability with regard to the short pack area.

KEY RESULT AREAS
A.Prioritization
1.Prioritizes customer orders by the following:
a. Lead or Supervisor delegation
b. Shipping method
c. Product availability
B.Organization
1. Organizes workload
a. Checks for accuracy: quantity, color, size, assemblies, and accessories
b. Determines proper packing requirements: carton size, carton quantity, weight, and protective material
C.Assembly
1.Correctly assembles all items according to job paperwork and assembly instructions:
a. Locates material from department and / or crib
b. Performs any applicable issuing and closing of jobs in system
c. Assembles product according to Stymark guidelines
D. Packaging
1. Packs material for final shipment
a. Lifts material from cart or tree location to work station
b. Determines appropriate quantity for a single carton
c. Packs product in carton with consideration to possible damage.
d. Staples and bands carton closed .
e. Correctly addresses and labels carton for proper shipment
f. Fills out appropriate paperwork associated with shipping order
g. Stages cartons in proper staging areas for shipment
h. Turns in paperwork for further processing
i. Packs showcases correctly
j. Ensures all paperwork and transactions are completed correctly
E.Other Duties
1. Restocks assembly and / or short pack workstations
2. Loading and unloading trucks
3. Moving carts
4.Completes tasks delegated by leadperson and/or supervisor
5.U.P.S. terminal duties including closing daily shipments and reporting
6.Instructs and educates others within short pack area
7.Displays initiative when faced with a problem

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Desired Education and Experience
High school education or equivalent experience. Previous packing experience helpful.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
·Ability to read and interpret a shipping order and pick list
·Familiarity with general shipping methods
·Ability to memorize and recognize parts by number and finish
·Ability to do simple mathematical calculations
·Familiarity with PC's and data entry
·Good manual dexterity and hand eye coordination
·Ability to lift up to 70 pounds frequently
·Ability to stand /walk for extended periods
·Class B forklift certification
·Ability to work cooperatively with others
·Ability to work productively and independently
·Willingness to cross-train and rotate positions effectively
·Willingness to work flexible and overtime hours as needed

OTHER PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY TO PERFORM THIS JOB
Talking/Hearing: Must be able to exchange ideas and convey information to other workers accurately. Ability to receive detailed information.
Stepping: Operate foot pedal on assembly machinery.
Reaching: Extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Standing/Walking: Required of entire work shift; perform all tasks while standing or moving about on foot.
Bending/Kneeling: Bending the body down, resting on one or both knees to retrieve or place packed or unpacked boxes.
Pushing: Push cart of up to 150 pounds across packing/shipping area; push packed box through binder.
Pulling: Pull 6' lengths of rolled wrapping paper.
LiftingCarrying: Carrying, pushing, pulling, raising and lowering of objects, of up to 70 pounds, up to 50 feet on a frequent basis. Raising objects weighing up to 20 pounds from lower to higher, higher to lower, and horizontal positions.
Fingering/Grasping: Picking, pinching, pulling, folding, stapling, handling, and manipulating small and large objects primarily with fingers and hands for majority of workday.

Position requires the use of near, mid-range and far vision with clarity of vision at 20 feet or more and 20 inches or less. The ability to judge distance and space relationships and see objects where and as they are. The ability to identify and distinguish colors. The ability to observe up and down or to the right or left (field of vision).

TOOLS
Incumbent must be able to use tape measure, calculator, pneumatic staple gun, automated banding machine, weight scale, personal computer and keyboard including printer, utility knife, hammer, pneumatic air press, and powered pallet jack.

Exposure to temperature changes from shipping area–Occasionally
Exposure to warehouse noises, dampness, and odors–Occasionally
